Synopsis

**Due to sexual content, language and violence, this book is only suitable for ages 18 and up**

Everyone has secrets. How far would you go to keep them hidden? What would it take for you to rid yourself of the secret…. to move past it all?
Kayla Williams was stuck in a reoccurring nightmare. The problem was Kayla wasn’t dreaming. This really was her life for the past sixteen years. No matter what, she knew she had to keep this secret, from everyone she knew and loved especially her ten brothers and sisters. It was a secret that would break the family apart. Kayla is the middle child of a large family. Kayla found it all too easy to blend into the background. When her twin sisters have a graduation party, Kayla decides to stop by only to tell them congratulations. She had tried to stay away from her family and her family home as much as she could. Kayla loved her family, but it was hard to face them, knowing the awful secret she was hiding. What Kayla didn’t know was that going to this party would cause the first domino to fall and trigger the next.
Jason Gold, a dutiful son, was a loner all his life. To Jason, honesty and trust were only a figment of people’s imagination but something he believed in. Jason, a police detective is married to the job. When Jason’s sick mother asks him to attend a party on behalf of her, he meets the one girl that he could not ignore or forget.
Secrets are dangerous…. they can cause bonds to break and hearts to shatter…. Will Kayla survive her hidden secret or will it claim her forever? Will Jason come clean on his secrets or let them tear away the only woman he has cared enough about to pursue?

My Review

A powerful and emotional journey of abuse, healing, and finding love.

Kayla is twenty eight years old and is a successful veterinarian who comes from a huge family of brothers, sisters, and amazing parents. I absolutely loved a few of her brothers. Carson, Eli and Jake were my favorite. I wish we would have seen more of Jake but we did get more of Carson and has his own book Fantasy Attraction that has already been released.

Kayla has one of the biggest hearts you’ll ever see but she is hiding something. For the past sixteen years she has been abused, both sexually and physically. It started when she was just twelve years old and it completely changed her. A lot of times it happened in her own home but she was too scared to tell anyone. For all the years she lived with her family no one ever noticed what was going on with her. They saw her withdrawal but never really paid attention to why. She kind of holds that against them for not protecting her and she closes herself off from her family and others after that. She cannot stand the touch of another, especially a man.

Jason is a thirty year old detective. He is a good son and a good man. Jason has been hurt in his past which makes it hard for him to trust anyone. While running an errand for his mother, he comes across a beautiful woman running away and almost falling flat on her face. Rushing to break her fall he finds himself with an overwhelming feeling of fulfillment when she is in his arms and Kayla feels the same. It’s the first time she has been able to tolerate any type of touch from a man…even if it was only for a minute. It’s the longest she has let someone hold her in years.

Whenever he was around me, I felt different. My skin tingled, and my heart skipped beats. It almost felt like I couldn’t breathe. This was a reaction to a man I’ve never had before.

Jason is captivated by her beauty and whatever it is about her- he just can’t get her out of his mind. He is determined to know more about her. He can see something painful in the depth of her eyes and he has an overpowering desire to make the light shine from her eyes again.

If I knew she’d accept it, I would have pulled her into my arms and held her until all her worries were gone.

Both Kayla and Jason feel the pull towards each other but are hesitant to have a real relationship because of their pasts. Kayla is still being abused by this man who thinks he owns her and has threatened her and any man she dares to get close to. Kayla tries to avoid Jason to protect him but after her last brutal attack she decides that she has had enough. She is determined to end this no matter the cost and finds herself asking Jason for help. Jason is beyond sickened by what Kayla has had to endure in her past and is determined to do whatever it takes to protect her and take down the man behind her attacks.

Protective Love is a gut-wrenching story of abuse and rape. It goes into extreme detail of the acts and it is heartbreaking. The time Jason spends with Kayla he realizes that she is it for him. He will do whatever he has to do to have her. He knows her past and knows he needs to go slow with her and he is willing to wait as long as he needs to for her.

I swear Jason was so sweet and patient with her, not wanting to go too far have her go running scared. It’s hard for him though, every time he is around her he has an overwhelming desire to just hold her and touch her. Kayla is slowly becoming used to being around Jason. He makes her feel safe and protected but every time he touches her in the slightest way she freaks.

She wants nothing more than to be able to live a normal life and do what normal couples do and she knows that if that is ever possible for her…it is Jason that will be the one to help her do it. She is able to let her guard down in front of him a little and laugh and smile. Actual real laughs and reals smiles. It feels so foreign to her but it feels good. I loved how Jason could sense when Kayla was withdrawing and he would do the craziest things to take her mind off things. He was just so sweet and didn’t care what anyone thought of him as long as it made Kayla happy….it was worth it.

Jason is terrified that Kayla is going to end up associating him with her assaults being that he is so involved. It leaves hesitant to take things further emotionally because he knows she is the one person who can break him.

Everything is piling around Kayla and she feels like no matter what she does she will not get through this. She prays for death. She prays for her assailant to take her to the point where she won’t ever be able to wake up again. Everyone has a breaking point and Kayla may have reached hers. She is done putting others in jeopardy. She sees the pain Jason and her family are in because of things in her life and she just can’t take it anymore. She needs to leave, to cut everyone she cares about from her life. It’s the only way to protect them.

A story of horrific abuse, trust, faith and love will have you on the edge of your seat. There is more to the story than meets the eye and one twist and turn after another will make this a book you will not be able to put down.

There were a couple of things that were kind of weird for me in this book...first being that she lived with all that abuse for so many years and never said anything, but then one day she just decides to come clean??? Also, her family noticed a change but never 'investigated' it???  I agree that it is kind of unlikely but not impossible. Some people just hit a breaking point and decide enough is enough and just need to get it out.  I've never been in that situation so I cannot judge someone if that is how they would act.  I also think her being so angry at her family is misplaced because it went both ways. She could have told just as they should have asked what was wrong.  And as far as the insta-connection...well that doesn't happen to often in real life but in books it happens all the time.  Even though I had these 'issues' (if you could call them that) with this book I didn't feel necessary to mark lower for it because non of them are completely impossible to believe...at least for me and I really did enjoy the book. I've a few similar books and found this one to be a lot more believable and better written than some of the others.
This was a first time for me reading P.J. Belden and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Add it to your TBR today.

“I want you to love away all my nightmares and scares. Give me a reason to not fear a touch, a kiss. Show me that when you love someone the act is more of a connection than domination. Make love to me now because you love me. Make love to me know because you need me; long for me.”

Review; The Seacrest by Aaron Paul Lazar

Synopsis

They say it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Finn McGraw disagrees.

He was just seventeen when he had a torrid summer affair with the girl who stole his heart—and then inexplicably turned on him. Finn may have moved on with his life, but he’s never forgotten her.

Now, ten years later, he’s got more than his lost love to worry about. A horrific accident turns his life upside down, resurrecting the ghosts of his long-dead family and taking the lives of the few people he has left.

Finn always believed his estranged brother was responsible for the fire that killed their family—but an unexpected inheritance with a mystery attached throws everything he knows into doubt.

And on top of that, the beguiling daughter of his wealthy employer has secrets of her own. But the closer he gets, the harder she pushes him away.

The Seacrest is a story of intrigue and betrayal, of secrets and second chances—and above all, of a love that never dies.

My Review

The Seacrest story is about second chance love, betrayal, pain and hatred.

The story starts with Finn finding out his wife Cora and brother Jax have died in a car accident. Finn is devastated his wife is dead but starts questioning why were they in the car together, since Finn hasn't spoken to his brother in 10 years.

"Life can change in the blink of an eye. This blink came when a cop car cruised up The Seascrest's white shell driveway on a hot Saturday in July"

In this book we get flashes back to the past, Finns first love, Sassy. Sassy isn't her real name but she wants to hide her identity from Finn until Finn gets to know her better. Finn met Sassy when he was sixteen and they start seeing each other but hiding it from her family as her father would have never let her out if he found out she was seeing someone. Finn falls very quickly for Sassy, he loves everything about her and after only a few days decides he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.

"I'm nuts about you. You know that." She smiled. "I know. You've only told me about a thousand times." "Do you love me?" I asked. She pouted. "I wouldn't be here if I didn't."

Back in the present Finn is dealing with losing his wife and uncovering why his Cora was in a car with his brother Jax. Finn hates Jax and has a lot of anger towards him because he thinks Jax accidentally killed his parents in a fire 10 years ago. At the same time, Finn is working at The Seacrest as a gardener and is becoming closer with Libby the boss's daughter but she is usually mean and bitchy towards Finn but has been better since the death of his wife and brother.

Back in the past Finn and Sassy are having the best summer of their lives, falling in love and exploring each other's bodies.

"It's okay, big guy." she said to my private parts. I laughed with a crazy sound, so glad she hadn't said "little guy."

Back in the present Finn starts uncovering more about Cora and his brother Jax and starts to deal with his past with Sassy and discovers that he probably never got over her.

Back in the past Summer is coming to an end and Sassy is heading to Switzerland for school. Finn is going to visit her on their last night together but when he gets there Sassy tells him they are over and tells him he is disgusting and deceitful and she never wants to talk to him again. Finn has no idea why she is doing this and starts writing to her school every week to try to understand what happened but Sassy sends back all of his letters unopened.

Back in the present Finn uncovers the lie that lead Sassy to think those things about Finn and he is devastated that the one person in his life that should never have hurt him has taken almost everyone from him and left Finn all alone.

I'm going to leave it there, this is partly a mystery and I don't want to ruin it for anyone.

Okay, now to my thoughts and why I only gave this book 3 stars. This may not make much sense because I am trying to not put any spoilers in this review.

This love story has some serious potential but missed the mark with Finn being to easy going and accommodating, when he should have had more passionate replies to things that were going on in his life. In a few scene's the love of his life is crying and Finn just lets her go and just thinks that he will talk to her later about it. The huge secret is 16 years old and they see each other every day, this girl was the love of his life, he was obsessed with her and he wrote to her afterwards for years to talk to him but when they are face to face he does not push her to tell him what happened until it's been 16 years :/ that just doesn't make sense to me. And also Finn didn't realise he was still in love with Sassy until after his wife's death and even said in the story he wanted children with his wife Cora. All of that while he still spent almost everyday with the love of his life? I just don't believe that he really loved her then if he was happily coasting through life seeing her everyday and planning on a family with his wife who he says he did love just maybe not enough.

Overall I liked it, it was fun, steamy, with a bit of suspense and some twists and turns but I didn't love it.

From what I can tell this is Aaron Paul Lazar first romance story and has also written many mystery books which have high ratings, so I will be checking them out as well.

Book #2 of the Driven Trilogy

What happens when the one person you never expected suddenly happens to be the one you’ll fight the hardest to keep?

Colton stole my heart. He wasn't supposed to, and I sure as hell didn't want him to, but he crashed into my life, ignited feelings within me that I thought had died forever, and fueled a passion that I never knew could exist.

Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet and into my life. Now I don't think I'll ever be the same. She's seen glimpses of the darkness within me, and yet she's still here. Still fighting for me. She is without a doubt the saint, and I am most definitely the sinner.

How is it the one thing neither of us wanted—neither of us anticipated that fateful night—has us fighting so hard to keep?

He steals my breath, stops my heart, and brings me back to life again all in a split second of time. But how can I love a man who won't let me in? Who continually pushes me away to prevent me from seeing the damaged secrets in his past? My heart has fallen, but patience and forgiveness can only go so far.

How can I desire a woman who unnerves me, defies me, and forces me to see that in the deep, black abyss of my soul there's someone worthy of her love? A place and person I swore I'd never be again. Her selfless heart and sexy body deserve so much more than I'll ever be capable of giving her. I know I can't be what she needs, so why can't I just let her go?

Synopsis

When Bree Prescott arrives in the sleepy, lakeside town of Pelion, Maine, she hopes against hope that this is the place where she will finally find the peace she so desperately seeks. On her first day there, her life collides with Archer Hale, an isolated man who holds a secret agony of his own. A man no one else sees.

Archer's Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice. It is the story of suffering, fate, and the transformative power of love.

My Review

A letter to Archer…..

Dear sweet strong silent Archer, I just want to hold you tight, your strength through the darkness was inspiring. Your determination to survive, your kindness when surrounded by hate and your passion to live was one of the most poetic journeys I have ever experienced.

Your indifference to the world that rejected you was heartbreaking to watch, your journey and pain is apart of who you are and that makes you, you. Your trust and your love you didn't give freely but when you gave you gave it all.

I didn't know enough to dream you, Bree, but somehow you came true anyway. How did that happen? He rubbed his nose along mine, pausing and then pulling back again. Who read my mind and knew exactly what I wanted, even when I didn't?

Your naivety broke my heart and made me angry for your misguidance, but you grew and grew and thrived off the lessons.
When we saw the real Archer you loved  fiercely. You let Bree in slowly at first, but for every small amount you gave of yourself to her, we watched you become the strong and confident Hale that you always were. And then we saw one woman bring  you to your knees and finally made you feel.

"You couldn't talk me out of loving you if you tried anyway. It's not a choice for me. It's just a truth."

Your experience with Bree was beautiful to watch, it was intimate and real, I could feel your emotions along with you, but it was more than an experience, it was a connection, a moment in time that will stay with us forever. You bought back Bree from her own terror, you were her strength to move forward. To let go and let love in, you both were there for each other. You were the light in her darkness.

Archer, my home is where you are.

And when you came to realise your journey was only beginning, I was rooting for you from the sidelines, I could see the man you became, Bree saw the man you were you just need that time to see your true self. When you found your way it was beautiful to watch. You came back the man you always were and finally had belief in yourself.  I was so happy you found it.

Then I would have come for you. I would have fought for you. But don't you see, I had to fight for myself first. I had to feel like I was someone worthy of winning you.

Thank you for your story Archer, may you always have the love of Bree you deserve and may life be only filled with beautiful memories, love and most of all laughter.

Someday, I said, when we're old and grey, I'm going to look at you lying in bed beside me, just like this, and I'm going to look into your eyes and know that it's only ever been you. And that is going to be the great joy of my life, Bree Prescott.

My Review

Whew! I just read this book in one sitting! I could not put it down!
I was hooked from begging to end! It made me laugh, swoon and broke my heart at times!

We have a bad ass biker named Ryder! He is everything I love about about bikers! Tall, Alpha and tatted!:) We also have Jade, sassy, rich, and independent!

These two in the same room is just hilarious and hot! They bump heads with each other from the start. Ryder is looking to rent a home from a company that Jade is working for. Ryder being bad ass doesn't want to fill out the necessity paperwork for the home. Jade isn't about to let some biker dude get out of not following the rules. She refuses to accept his large sum of cash saying its dirty money! Ryder is getting pissed that the uptight little princess is judging him. However, he is turned by her!

"Well I may be biased toward someone who can actually read and write," I snapped, "and listen."

"There you go shooting off that pretty mouth of yours again, Princess. Judging me. I told you that you don't know the story."

As the story unfolds you see what type of life Ryder had growing up. I must say it is hard to read! My heart broke for him for what he endured so young. He finally found his home at the Scorpions MC.

Jade on the other hand was brought up by her two loving parents and brother. She learnt at a young age to be independent and make your own money so you don't have to depend on a man. There is an Incident that happened involving her brother and he has had a hard time ever getting over it! It was never said what happened, but I can't wait to read the next book to see what it is about!

Ryder and Jade have some run ins and the banter between them was comical. You could tell these two were just hot for one another! Jade is very curious about the biker bad ass and Ryder can't get the uptight princess out of his head!

"Christ Princess. It's not your father I want to be. Unless you have daddy issues you want me to help you with. I'll gladly pull you over my knee and spank you for being a naughty girl, before I fuck you."

"Could you be anymore caveman? pounding your chest and grunting. That may have worked for you before, but frankly it does nothing for me."

After giving into their needs they have one night of some steamy hot sex! Jade has never experienced sex with a man like this before and she doesn't know how she is going to be able to walk away from Ryder. But Ryder has other plans.

"If you think I'm letting you go after all that, you're mistaken. I don't play the knight in shining armor to just any women."

This is short novel so it is fast paced but it didn't feel rushed.

You experience Ryder's world and Jades. They are starting to collide, but how will everything work out? They are from two different worlds!

I can't wait to read the next book and see what the future holds for these two!

I need more Ryder had Jade!

Be spontaneous, they say.

That's how I ended up on the back of a stranger's bike.

A sexy, tall, tattooed stranger, but a stranger nonetheless.

How was I to know that a chance meeting with this man, Xander Kane, was going to change my life?
