Synopsis

From the author of the Amazon #1 bestselling romance, Jake Undone, comes a friends-to-lovers story of longing, passion, betrayal and redemption…

Skylar was my best friend, but I secretly pined for her. One thing after another kept us apart, and I’ve spent the last decade in fear of losing her forever.

First, it was the cancer, but she survived only to face the unthinkable at my hands. Because of me, she left town. For years, I thought I’d never see her again.

But now she’s back…and living with him.

I don’t deserve her after everything I’ve put her through, but I can’t live without her. This is my last chance, because she’s about to make the biggest mistake of her life. I can see it her eyes: she doesn’t love him. She still loves me...which is why I have to stop her before it’s too late.

My Skylar is a STANDALONE novel and a companion to Jake Undone.

**Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+

My Review

Oh my goodness...

I think I need a moment...

Honestly, I’m feeling a little Verklempt as I think about what to say in the review for this incredible book. I’m honestly a bit tongue-tied (and believe me; it doesn’t happen often). I’m sitting here writing things then deleting them as I fear what I have to say won’t do justice to the review this book deserves or to me conveying the array of emotions I went though while reading Penelope Ward’s 3rd book in the Gemini series My Skylar.

This is Skylar and Mitch’s story, who we met in the amazing Jake Undone. It took me a minute to put it together then I was like…oh yeah! Skylar! Loved her! Lol!

This review is also hard for me to write because I don’t want to give to much away, this is a book where it’s so consuming and surprising that the less you know going in, the better the journey will be.

NOTE: have a big box of Kleenex within immediate reach.

The book opens with Mitch, who just happens to be sitting outside Skylar’s house, not waiting for her, but rather he's stalking her! It’s in a non-threatening way believe me.
It’s more the love sick, I-can’t- get-over-you-need-you-NOW! kinda way.
After reading him confess his feelings, and why he’s there I was like aww poor Mitch, go ahead stalk away!

Suffice it to say that after simply hearing Mitch speak in the prologue with such heady emotions I  already know two things for sure...
1. I'm going to ugly cry while reading this book
2.  I'm going to have a complete book hangover when I finish it.

After the prologue we are taken back 15 years to when Skylar (10years old) and Mich (11years old) first meet. Right from the moment Skylar comes hopping into the scene, I love her! She is fun and daring and such a free sprit.
She's just such a little brat as she helps pull a depressed Mitch out of his shell while he's been sent to spend the summer living with his Grams as his parents marriage is crumbling.

Five years then pass since they have last seen each other. One night while at the same party Mitch and Skylar have the reunion both have been secretly wishing for. After some explaining by Mitch, he and Skylar are able to rekindle their friendship. But of course, now being teenagers more than feelings of friendship is what begin to surface.

As the book progresses we start to read some of the dirty thoughts a teen-aged Mitch has about the beautiful women Skylar is becoming.  I just loved hearing Mitch turning all Alpha as she begins to date and more and more he realizes that he needs to make her, his! He's so in love with her, it's killing me that their not together yet.

As more time passes (their 15 and 16 years old now) it's clear that both have feelings for each other but are afraid to ruin what they have. While reading these chapters I found my self smiling and so wishing them to come together cause' they are just so darn cute!

After Mitch put the kibosh on Skylar's first kiss, with her date Aiden, we finally see a shift in both characters as they have their first kiss and it's incredible! Yay! There finally going to be together!

Swoon!! Love love love this first kiss! It's sweet and hot all at the same time!

As more months pass, they aren't actually together yet (so disappointed) however, feelings, flirting and fears have been shared and they've grown so much closer than they have ever been. Then finally Mitch decides that they should go for it! (It's about time dude!)
He wants to try out a real relationship with Skylar. YES!

What does she do in return?
Skylar drops a huge BOMB on us!

(Grab Kleenex now!)

This is where the heart aching, ugly crying, gut wrenching, can't stop flipping reading emotional roller coaster of a book really starts. And honestly the ride goes on and on and up and down so many times I can't even tell you.

"In a way, you don't realize the depth of your feelings until something like this happens. Through her frailty, I saw her soul-the essence of why I'd always loved her. It shined brighter, no longer paling in the reflection of her physical beauty. It made me realize that I truly loved her from the inside out, not the other way around"

The writing in these chapters in just incredible, I swear I was living through it all with them. I just could not put this book down and if I did it was to dry my tears and blow my nose.  Just when you would think things were going to get better and they'd be together something else would happen to keep them apart. I was seriously having an emotional breakdown while reading, but don't get me wrong I loved every friggin' second of it.

God the things Mitch and Skylar say to each other and think about the other and the whole thing its just a crazy ride that I'd go on again and again! (gushing!) Thank God for duel POV!

I hope I haven't given the impression that this book is all sad, because despite the heavy emotions it is full of hot alpha dirty talkin' Mitch and some super sexy scenes that will leave you hot and bothered for sure (the beach, is my fav!) And of course we get an ending that gave me closure and left me smiling.

"If the thought of losing someone doesn't scare the shit out of you, then it's not love."

An added bonus to this book is there are lots of cameos with Jake and Nina. I loved getting to visit with them and see where they are now.  I also need to point out that I loved Henry and how Skylar bonded with such a sweet sweet boy!
