Synopsis
There was no bright light in my death, but perhaps that is because I wasn’t destined for the angelic beauty of heaven. No, my short lived life had been played out with so much sin and excess that there would no doubt be a special cage in hell with my name on it. In my death, I felt and saw nothing. No warmth, no cold, no light, no darkness, just nothing. When I woke, he was gone, the only piece of perfection in my ugly world. Part of me was grateful that he had finally found the good sense to leave. Another part of me was broken, irrevocably and agonizingly broken.

My Review

I don't even know where to start with reviewing this tragically beautiful story. It's a story about addiction, in more ways than one, and the constant battles we try to conquer every day of our lives to overcome the dark demons that lurk in the shadows of our minds. We do this so we can be strong, and blissfully happy, for not only ourselves but for those we cherish the most. This is Violet's story, and her compelling tale is one that will not be forgotten.

I loved this book so much, it will stay with me forever. It's raw, it's emotional and it's so flawlessly written that each and every word lifted off the page and branded itself into my mind and my heart. Violet, Cain, Annabelle, Harry, Violet's father, and the rest of the amazing characters in Violet Addiction all added a special piece to this story to mold into the brilliance that it was. Every captivating moment brought on a whirlwind of mixed emotions and for the story to have that effect on me, it MUST.BE.AMAZING. I absolutely love when I come across an author who can write something so incredible and make me feel so much. Kirsty Dallas is one of those go-to authors for me, she has completely outdone herself with Violet Addiction and I honestly wish this book never ended, I could have lived in Violet's world forever. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and I completely fell in love.

I've always followed you, baby. I promised you I always would, but i need you to follow me this time. Just once, I need you to come to me. I need to know you need me as much as I need you. - Cain

This book does cover some harsh elements that some readers may find difficult to process reading, one of these being long term substance abuse. It is clear Kirsty has done her research when it comes to this subject matter because she has written Violet unbelievably well, the inner thoughts and battles that consume Violet felt very real and authentic. This all helped me to really understand the goings on in the mind of an addict like Violet. It was mind blowing, every second of it. I found these compelling characters to be so inspiring, Violet especially, there was just something about them that left me in awe of them, they are all such amazing people in their own ways. The dynamics of the relationship between Annabelle, Cain and Violet was possibly one of my favourite parts of this book.  I loved it! From the humorous, witty comments bouncing back and forward, to the more compassionate moments between these three people now intertwined and on a path of the unknown, it was a journey that was deeply moving and touching to read.

Nothing I write can give this book the justice it deserves, all I can say is that if you want a beautifully written heartfelt story about second chances, undeniable love and so much more than you need to get your hands on this baby now. You will not regret it. My heart broke about a million times, but slowly and surely each piece was glued back together by the love and devotion these characters had for one another.

So a little more about Violet Addiction..

Violet and Cain meet in high school, their love for music is what brings them together. The friendship they build over the years is one of great value to both of them. They love each other, unconditionally, that much is obvious. Although they have never taken their friendship to a more intimate level, they both have that desire to. However, they both know why it's never happened and according to Violet it never will.

Someone once told me crying was not a sign of weakness, but simply someone who had been strong for far too long. My last remaining fragments of strength had been Cain Everett, and with his loss, I was not vulnerable and weak. Suddenly the death that had unknowably brushed by my door only days before was welcomed, in fact, I longed for it. For not the first time in my life, I cursed my parents for giving me this pitiful existence. -Violet

Everyday Violet suffers an addiction, one that threatens to kill her, one that nearly has many times. Brought on by a past that has warped her mind and soul into believing she is worthless, Violet struggles with self hatred and loathes the woman staring back at her in the mirror. She believes she doesn't deserve his love, but she stole his heart years ago. Cain has stood by Violet forever, watching her waste away day after day, will Violet recover, with herself and Cain's heart intact? Or will this path of destruction break both of them?

You don't have to fight for me, baby. I'm yours, always have been and always will be.
