BLURB

A stand-alone sequel in The Demise Series....

For twenty-three-year-old Rebecca O'Connor, there’s only one reason to live…her little sister, Raina.

Through years of growing up in an abusive home, Raina and Becca have formed an unbreakable bond…until Raina falls in love and elopes.

For the first time in her life, Becca is on her own. After breaking up with her boyfriend, she is homeless, broke, and she’s losing her grip on her life.

Then she meets James Rush, a shy guy with sharp blue eyes and an invisible lure for her heart…

Becca has always had to be the strong one. But the deeper James pulls her under, the more she wants to succumb to her vicious attraction. The fact that he’s deaf might make him that much more desirable. At least he appreciates beauty.

But James is going nowhere fast…

A twenty-two-year-old college student, James can't shake the feeling his life is dull and uneventful. He may be alive, but he’s not living, as he hides in his introverted shell to protect himself from a past that left him empty, neglected, and abused.

When James meets Becca, their futures are forever altered. She’s a black-haired, tattooed, confident bartender who immediately hexes him with her charm. When he’s with Becca, his past stays in the past.

Caught in each other’s web of safety and desire, it’s only a matter of time before they are confronted with the one task too terrifying to face…

Letting go of the past, and daring to love.

MY REVIEW

James is MINE! Mine, I tell you.

My Vicious Demise is a story that I've been eagerly anticipating since I finished My Sweet Demise. Getting to know James and Becca through Kent and Raina's story created a need I had to see them happy. Reading this story may not have had the stomach turning angst of Shana's other works, but it had the kind of soul crushing brokenness that is not easily fixed. It had two very fractured people that didn't think they could ever be whole until finding strength in the most unexpected place which finally lead to the possibility that what was once torn could be mended.

James has spent the majority of his life deaf with only two people he's ever been able to count on - his grandmother and best friend Kent. As college graduation gets closer, James' closed off world starts to look more and more bleak especially after another girl he thought saw him for who he was cut and ran when things proved to difficult for her. After spending weeks reeling in depression and uncertainty, he's shocked to see Raina's (Kent's wife) estranged sister out one night. Drawn to her he tells himself that it's because he wants to see Raina happy again but in reality it's so much more than that.

Becca never gets chosen. When her parents took off when she was a young girl leaving Becca in charge of essentially raising Raina, she's always known that men can't be trusted. Her heart is broken beyond repair when Raina elopes with the worst kind of guy Becca could imagine. Six months later and Becca's life is in tatters and she doesn't even have her sister to lean on anymore since she chose her new husband over the only family she has anymore. Whens Becca sees James, she's drawn to him. At first she's hoping that he'll be useful for a night of forgetting, but it soon becomes apparent that James isn't the kind of guy that she can use and discard.

As Becca and James spend the next two weeks together while Raina and Kent are out of town, they begin to fall. Separately. Both have wounds that go way beyond the surface and while they each want something more from the other, giving voice to that desire seems impossible. Neither wants to give the other the ability to break them even further but sometimes breaking down is the only way to be built back up. James and Becca need to be able to shed their pasts and hold on to the future if they have any hope of getting out intact.

James and Becca's story was as soul crushing as it was breathtakingly beautiful. I went into this story expecting one thing and was given something totally different. I should have known Shana would write a storyline that went above and beyond my mere imaginations, but I was still actively surprised throughout their story. Add in the sexiest non-sex imaginable and I was in romance book heaven.

James has had me wrapped around his little finger since he was first introduced in book 1 and I just fell even harder for him here. Learning the depth of his despair was heart wrenching. He was so completely different than his best friend Kent that I just wanted to be able to hold his hand while I read. And to be honest I was a bit surprised at how perfect Becca was for him. I wasn't a super fan of hers after the events of book 1, but getting inside her head and heart, I began to understand why she was the way she was and saw that she was truly the perfect soul mate for my James. In addition that ending was absolutely perfection. Pure goodness and light coming from such darkness and despair left me completely and utterly under the spell of this HEA.
