My Review
I love being surprised by K. Webster and I'm now pretty sure she can write anything. This emotional journey was unexpected. I don't know what I expected when I started reading this story but as in true K. Webster fashion she turned my expectations on their head and gave me exactly what I didn't know I needed. Adrian and Nessy's story wasn't traditional but it was powerful.
Adrian's life is not what he wanted. Twelve years ago his life changed and now he's forever changed. Working to support his 19 year old son, he really doesn't do much else. But when he sees his employee Nessy calm down an little boy just because she could, he knows she's exactly who he needs in his life. Yet he can't have her.
Nessy is saving money to open her own publishing company. She needs a full year of employment though before the bank will give her a loan. When her boss Adrain changes her position to one working out of his home, she takes it. Not only does she feel she can't really say no, but the money would help and so does that fact that she's been lusting after the quiet, broody alpha since she was hired. But when she gets to his house, her job is nothing like she expected. While the push and pull between them is painfully obvious, she can't have him.
This story pulled pretty much every emotion out of me that there was. One moment I'm holding my heart because I know devastation is coming and then literally two pages later, I'm laughing out loud and getting weird looks from my husband who is sure I'm crazy. But I was wasn't crazy. Nessy and Adrian were a bit Crazy and a lot Wacko. Nessy was most definitely the best part of this book. She was klutzy and silly and open and honest. And normal. I loved her. Adrian took some getting used to for me. He was so hot and cold. He had such extremes that there were times I wasn't quite sure about him. But it all came together in the end. While the road wasn't easy. It was real.
