In AL Jackson’s newest standalone in her Fight For Me series, Kale and Hope find each other when they least expected it. Neither is fully whole. Both are fighting battles that no one else can see. And yet these two have a passionate connection that neither can deny for very long. Told in her beautiful prose, Ms. Jackson swept me away to her small town world and captured my attention in this emotional romance.
Kale determined years ago that he wasn’t going to find and sustain the kind of romantic connection he once thought he’d have. Life isn’t fair and love isn’t worth the risk. He’s got his best friends, their families and his job. That’s all he needs. At least until Hope shows up in his small town and turns his life upside down. Hope isn’t looking for love. She actually doing the opposite. But when Kale pushes his way under her defenses, there doesn’t seem to be anything she can do to stop him. And truthfully even if she should, she doesn’t want to. As Kale and Hope tip toe around their non-relationship, old hurts come to the surface, past heartaches come roaring back and reality makes an entrance that neither can ignore.
After reading the first book in this series, I was so excited to get Kale’s story and he did not disappoint. He’s been broken in love before and as unwilling as he was to try again, it became obvious that Hope was exactly what he needed. And what started as a one time thing, became something so much more meaningful. I fell for Kale, his brokenness and his super sexiness. I fell for Hope, her brokenness and her resilance. Plus the addition of some of the best side characters to date — this book made me smile and swoon and fall in love.
